i have a heck of alot of boxes given to me… however… the person that gave them to me must have been making scented candles… the boxes smells of many different flowers and who knows what… my question is anyone think if i store flies in the containers the “scent” will ruin the effectiveness of the flies? never know… they might like peach mango flavoring! lol
I have to hold my breath any time I go near a candle store; peach mango -ugh! I’d scrub them out with a little baking soda.

add a little (well ok a lot of) rum to the peach mango and you have a winner there.
You could try breaking up some charcoal briquets in a foil pan, seal the box, well put the top on, and let it sit for a few days. Bar B Q season coming anyway.

I use the bulk activated charcoal for aquarium filters from Wallys pet dept to refill the deodorizer in my fridge. They don’t crumble like briquettes. Luke
Do the boxes smell better than " MOTH BALLS" ?
I’m a big believer in ‘scents’ in general, and getting unwanted ‘scents’ off of my materials in particular.
I think it does matter, and I carefully wash and rinse all the materials I buy, regardless of source.
For me, those boxes wouldn’t be worth the hassle and dubious results of trying to get the smell out of them. I’d never be able to have any confidence in flies I tied with stuff from them.
Up to you, but storage containers aren’t expensive and I’d just not take the chance.

Dishwashing liquid & bleach usually cleans any storage boxes found at yard sales & thrift stores.
thanks for the input everyone, i think im gonna skip on the boxes… after closer inspection, i would almost have to steam the hell out of them, just to get the oil and i assume wax residue off… plastic holds smells no matter what… i agree with buddy… not worth the hassle. and crotalus… your recipe calls for about 98% rum… damn still not strong enough lol
