Stetzer's Fluttering Termite (Carnage variation) SBS

Originally designed by Randy Stetzer as a carpenter ant imitation on the Deschutes; may give it a shot as a salmonfly.

hook - TFS 2305 #4
thread - Danville Flymaster Plus black
core - 20lb mono
tail/underbody - fox squirrel tail
rib - x-small wire copper
abdomen - 1mm foam orange
body hackle - dun (undersize by 2)
wing - moose body hair
front hackle - dark dun

Part 1

mash barb, put a loop in the end of a piece of mono, tie it in at midpoint

measure (2x shank) a clump of squirrel tail; tie in/trim butts

tie in wire

adjust hook angle and insert loop onto gallows

wrap squirrel up core (hook length), and back down with cross wraps

tie in foam strip

brush underbody with Super Glue

Part 2

wrap foam up (hook length) under tension, brush on some more glue and wrap back down and back down; tie off/trim

tie in body hackle at base of abdomen

wrap hackle up abdomen

capture tip with wire; continue rib down abdomen to base, helicopter end, tie off/trim, trim mono core

re-adjust hook; move thread to 2/3 mark, clean, stack, measure (hook length) a clump of moose body hair

tie in with 2 soft loops, increase tension and take a few more wraps

pull wing back and set angle with thread dam in front

Part 3

divide and post wing; trim butts and cover with thread wraps

tie in hackles (2 used here)

wrap hackles; tie off/trim, half hitch x 2, SHHAN

trim out hackle underneath (optional)
