Steen Neversink Caddis (variation) SBS

2mm foam on anything smaller than a #12 looked a bit clunky so I went with the thinner stuff; floatation not a problem with iron this light. Swapped out original’s ungulate wing for synth. Tied here as a Mother’s Day caddis; change color size to suit your needs.

hook - Dai Riki 305 #14
thread - Danville 6/0 olive
body - biot olive/brown
underwing/head - 1mm foam grey
wing - Congo Hair grey
hackle - grizzly dyed olive

Part 1

Mash barb/start thread at 2/3 point; wrap to bend

Tie in (moistened) biot notch-side down for ribbed effect; wrap to 2/3 mark, tie off/trim

Measure (tip just past bend) a tapered strip (3/4 gap width) of foam; tie in, wrap to eye

Tie in a hank of CH; wrap back to 2/3 mark

Part 2

Tie in hackle; wrap to eye, tie off/trim

Half hitch x 2, SHHAN, trim out hackle underneath (optional), trim wing, trim head

Scott
