St. Croix 865-4

This rod is built on a St.Croix SCIII 8’6" 5wt 4pc blank which is dark olive color with a slight metallic tint to it. The reel seat is a AW12 with green woven insert and I put the ST.CROIX name on each opening of the window. Grip is mix of dark mix burl with brown burl ends with black accents all coated with cork sealer to bring out the colors of the burls more. The owner wanted the wraps to be subtle and not flashy so I went with Gudebrod “Classic Twist” green & black coated with CP which gives it a very nice clean and classy look without being flashy. Stripper is a fuji inserted Z frame and the rest of the guides are double foot running guides. Also has alignment dots on the ferule for lining up the sections.

It’s a beauty, Steve!

Steve,

Nice! - What are the “spacers” on the grip made of?

Best regards, Dave S.

Dave those are actually made from craft foam. The kind that you find such is at Walmart and you can buy for about .30 cents a sheet. I just cut out the round shape and glue them between the rings when I glue the grip up. Long as you get them soaked with epoxy well then they turn down pretty much at the same rate of the cork and add a nice accent.
