Got around to a fly shop in a neighboring town that I haven’t been to. …lots of inventory…picked up some squirrel zonker strips…was surprised when I got home and counted the strips…4 or 5 short strips per package @ $2.45…not outrageous but for one who zonkers his own rabbit hides this seems to be a little high.
Is this to be expected?
I can see why John came up with his chenille bodied pine squirrel fly to save on material.
I have only bought the zonked full skins. Seems like they were in the $15 range. It’s a pretty small animal but you get a decent number of 6 - 8 inch strips.
Yup, sounds about right. Whole precut skins are a better deal if you can find them. Still not as good a deal as whole rabbit skins, but that’s probably a supply/demand issue because rabbit is more widely used in crafts.
