The one in Lexington Ky opened with an excellent tying selection- as good or better than most flyshops. Nothing got replaced it seemed over the last year. Then last month they found out they were closing.
The Sportsman’s Warehouse in Tucson, Arizona used to have a great fly tying section.
Now it’s slim pick’ns, and they have not had any new fly material shipments in a long time.
I’ve seen many stores close (ie. Las Cruces, New Mexico; Goodyear, Arizona…a Phoenix suburb; Littleton, Colorado etc.) !!! Sign of the times with this economy. Small fly shops are even taking a harder hit.
Sure miss the Sportsman’s Warehouse here in southwest VA. The next closest place hasn’t had anybody in the mini fly fishing section last four times I was in the store and the bozo’s they have in the regular fishing sections don’t know squat. Only bought a couple of leaders and a pair of stretchy over the calf socks for wearing with the chest high waders. Reckon most of the buying will have to be online in the future. First the local fly shop, then Sportsman’s Warehouse, and next… Criminey!!!
Today was the last day for the one in Lexington. I bought over 250 flies at $.10 each and my wife said to go back and get more (I waiting for a place with a very Hot climate to freeze over now)!! Got about 30 humpies and a lot of #18-#24 stuff, My eyes don’t like to tie.
Apologies to Flyshops in Wyoming and West Yellowstone. Still need tippet and leaders though.
