Speaking of Snowpack

There’s a nasty storm bearing down on the eastern US - ice/snow mix in the Southeast and heavy snow/blizzard conditions in the Mid-Atlantic (we’re due for 24-30" in the western suburbs of D.C.). For everyone effected, please be careful; hope to see you all safe and sound after we dig out.

Scott

Stay safe and warm.

Scott, looks like you got what was predicted in your area. Hope you still have power and all is as good as can be expected under the circumstances.

Weathermen may have shorted on this one; we had about 24" when we started shoveling. Probably picked up another 8" by the time I finished and it’s still coming down. So far, the wind has been light - supposed to hit 30-40 mph; hope they miss on that forecast.

Regards,
Scott

We got a little over 30" where I am in SE PA. Combined with 30 mph sustained winds, and gusts to over 50 mph, it wasn’t a particularly nice day to be outside yesterday. Today is cold, at 16? this morning, but sunny and calm.

I have an old pair of Simms breathable waders that I cut the feet off, and I wear that together with my shorty rain jacket when I go outside to clear the snow, and am actually pretty comfortable.

The snowfall here was an all-time record, going back to the 1800’s.

John

John,

Glad you made it thru okay. We ended up with 34", which I think was a record, too; luckily the wind held off. I also wear my waders (intact, though) and rain jacket to shovel this one out.

Regards,
Scott

We have around 30" in South Central, PA

No one mentioned power outages which is good. Is there much vegetation damage in any of the areas reported (Downed trees/limbs)?

In what I would consider a freak accident a mail carrier was killed when a tree on a golf course fell on his vehicle while on the road to the golf club. There are a few limbs down around Atlanta here, maybe a few trees with the moisture level in the soil (we finished the year 17 inches above average on rainfall). Winds were reported as high as 40 mph in gust.

I only had a little snow power stayed on and no fallen trees
