Southeast FL Fishing Advice

Looks like I’ll be heading to the Miami, Ft Lauderdale area at the end of March and beginning of April for a conference. I’m taking a few extra days to enjoy some sun and fishing. What are my best opportunities for that area and possibly down into the Keys at that time of year? I have no salt water experience and am not a proficient long distance caster. I’m not particular about what I fish for, just looking for some fun.

One opportunity that I am serioulsy considering is fishing Peacock Bass in the canals. There was a recent article in one of my FF mags, now if I can just find it!

Any on the canals in South Dade County(Kendall to Florida City) hold good populations of Peacocks. March might still be a little chilly for them to really turn it on, but if you catch some warm weather, you ought to do well.

I found the article from Fly Fisherman March issue on FL Peacocks. I have also been poking around online and found a ton of great info. Is anyone interested in sharing the cost on a guided trip in the area arounf Miami between March 30 and April 3? I would be up for salt or fresh. Prices look like they start around $225 for a half day and go up from there.
