I just wanted to say I’m really sorry about the incident with all those blue winged teals being poisoned on the north (caribean) region of my country.
They were here to scape the winter months as they’ve done for millions of years, who’s counting? And two stupid short-minded guys decided to make some profit out of them and decided the best way was to poison the birds.
The numbers of dead birds are huge and keep rising, up until today there are 7000+ birds on the list.
I guess this will some how affect the population of these birds for a few years and since they are born in the states and Canada I thought I’d just say I’m sorry for you loss. Also really embarrassed, as the people of my country still think they own the planet and can do with it what they want.
Things like that happen. Here in Iowa, about 500 mallard ducks died from eating corn that laid on the ground underneath the snow. What they didn’t know that the corn had a mold on it. That mold was what killed them.
Was the poisoning of the teal in your country intentional? Or was it as a result of man’s ignorance or stupidity?
Those mallards got what they deserved, they should have kept trucking south and it would have happened at the end of my gun barrell instead of moldy corn.
Dave,
Thank you for your concern and your sincere apology. You seem to be a very gracious person, and I respect you for what you are doing. It’s a shame how often some of us must make the effort to apologize for the stupidity of a few senseless people in this world. Let us know how the culprits are punished.

The only limitations we have are the ones we put on ourselves.
Thank you for your considerate message about this terrible incident. I’m afraid that every country has it’s share of thoughtless, selfish and ignorant people and this is just one example of their behavior. Hopefully, they will receive appropriate punishment for what they’ve done and others will listen and learn from it as well.
Thats awful, and it’s the first I heard of it. I think we’d all feel better if you sent us each a baggie of teal flank feathers- I just used the last of mine tying up a batch of Magog smelt streamers($2.00 for 12 feathers) It looks like availability and price will be going up… what a waste of birds. Thats a shame. Did any get to market and poison any people? We have plenty of nitwits up here too, but the scale of the slaughter is staggering.
Dave, I appreciate where you are coming from but you don’t have to apologize for the actions of idiots. Good and bad have always coexisted and unfortunately bad seems get most of the press. I would not presume to judge an entire group of people based the unethical behavior of a few individuals. With your sincere statement of concern, I believe you represent the best in all of us.
