Morenb,
Okay, the tent atop the truck has me intrigued. Does it travel atop the truck (in a floded position) or must it me removed?

Reminds me of the “camp-o-tel” that we used to have on top of the family station wagon doing vacation trips when I was…much younger. Similar concept - definately easier to set up than a conventional tent and out of the way of most undesirable critters. Did have my doubts though with an encounter with some grizzlies in Yellowstone back in the 60’s.
Great Pix - always enjoy the contributions.

Its just folds up double on top, with the sleeping bags etc still inside until the next location. Had it put on after we went camping(in a ground tent) in a park and heard a scratching noice outside. Peeking through the front there was a lion about half a meter away. Since then my wife has refused to sleep in a ground tent again.
It takes about 5 min to set up or fold away. I normaly take it off when I know we are not going camping for a while.
Here is a pic of it folded away.
I wonder why you carry a couple spare tires with you?
John
If you look at the terrain, I think you might want to take two of everything. Except wives.
We often travel in places where the closest help is a few hours drive away. As Lotech said the terrain we drive on (sharp rocks, etc) can damage a tire quickly and there is nothing worse than being stuck with a torn tire in the middle of nowhere. I carry a tire repair kit too as well as spare fan belts, filters, etc.
We lived several years in Montana and drove on some rather nasty trails and ‘roads.’ Six ply steel belted GMC truck tires got flats regularly. Not through the tread, through the %$#@ sidewalls. (no 6 ply steel there) Was just a fact of life and they weren’t cheap either.
Morneb,
I was a little slow to figure out why you had to put your tent on top of the car. Had to laugh at the story about your wife and the lion. I too would refuse to sleep on the ground. Great pics!! Really neat to see another part of the world.
Thanks
