Some Pics

The first fly pics of my new camera (fujifilm finepix s5700)

hope you enyoy them…

Very nice. Seem very sharp. I might suggest more lighting. :slight_smile:

mem_cl,

Nice pictures. Very sharp and clear. For a little more definition, especially with dark colored flies, more light, as Chewydog suggested, is always a plus. Also, if you have some posterboard or other colored background material available, it really focuses attention on the fly and not the background.

Here’s what I’ve been using.

Here’s a size 22 fly that my wife tied, photographed on that set up.

Hope that helps.

BOTH, of you, take super nice pics! (But, I also, had "dark fly-itus"until someone long ago also gave me the “more lighting” hint, sure made a difference in crispness!)
Also, it was suggested to me, to use a “light to medium shade”-FLAT (non-glossy), of GREEN as a backboard. Something to do with; “green” and the “prismatic effect of blues, reds, greens and yellows”, when taking pictures up close. Whatever, the “reasons”, it sure made a huge difference in my close up pictures! I bought a piece of semi-heavy poster board in the “Sea Foam” shade of green. Worked perfectly!

Mem: Your new camera has one of the finest, “sharp focus” lenses, I think I’ve seen!! Like, Ron E.E.'s, the way it shows so clearly, each and every barbel of the Wooly Bugger hackle, is really great! Congrats on your purchase!

NOT, “trying to hi-jack a thread”, here, but speaking on the same lines of photography…
Ron E.E. Whose tripod are you using and where’d you run across it, (If I may be SO rude enough to ask?).

flybinder,

Try B&H photo in NY. It’s where the pros go and prices are very good to boot. I have purchased 1,000s of dollar worth of camera equipment there over the years without issue. Here is a link to their mini and tabletop tripods.

Mem;
Since you took such great pics of your flies, can you fill me in on what that very first one, pictured, is? From the detailed photo, I’m going to guess a Stone fly nymph!?

Ty-Fly: THANKS, for the link on the Tripods! I’m going to check those boys out!
I bought my first, digital, 6 years ago from I “think”, “King’s Photo”??, in NY city and THEY were great to deal with also. Now, 6 years and 5 more digital cameras, later, (don’t ask, they’re like fly rods to me)… I still need 2 more tripods then all 6 will be “outfitted” per camera bag.

Flybinder,

The tripod is just some cheap thing I picked up at Best Buy (I think), ran about $9.00 Works okay for table top stuff, I would not trust my camera to it with the legs extended. If you look at the pic of my set up you’ll notice a green piece of matte board behind the blue. My wife does her own matting and framing so I get the scraps. Very nice non-reflective pieces in a wide range of colors.

At least here in Chile you can buy those tripods in any photography store for about $12.000 chilean pesos (aboutr $6 USD).

That’s one of the fist flies I made without following an existing pattern (I’v been tying just for a couple of months by the way), and the idea was to imitate a dragon/damsel fly nymph, but I haven’t been able to use it (or any of my flies) since the season just opened last weekend and I will go fish this weekend. Also dragon/damsel fly patterns will be effective mostly in january, specialy is lakes in the cordilleran lakes is the south of chile.

Mem;
My IDIOTIC, post to you, about “what kind of fly?”, further proves that I should never make posts, after having the lid off my head cement, for hours, before attempting to type!!
“Damsel fly nymph” is exactly what I MEANT TO ASK, and I don’t have a CLUE as to where me typing; “Stone Fly” came from!?!
It’s a very good tie, for a damsel fly imitation, (nymph), and I’m sorry for making such a stupid comment as “Stone Fly”

May I be punished for the errors of my ways, by having to fish a Popeil Pocket Fisherman, for the remainder of the Steelhead season!
Again, my apologies for my blatant stupidity!

Helps? Ron, that helped to take my breath away. Wow! Great fly, great pic. Thanks for sharing.

Ed,

My ability with a camera pales in comparison to her ability with thread and feather.
