And YES, flashy hot spots work well on heavily pressured waters…

Those will work very well in MA especailly on the Swift. Is he trying some Striper fishing when he is out here?

All are nice ties, and I’m sure they will all catch fish, but I’m partial to the red/orange PT and the yeller fella nymph - great ties that I’ll have to try for my next trip on the water. Great tying!

I only armed my kid with a Winston BIIX, 9’, 5wt. for this trip…he is with his fiancee who is attending to her Grandmother in her final days…

Those are inspiring! I was out last night after bluegills, just after a storm front blew through. The only thing they hit was a nymph pattern I tied up from the article in the current Fly Tyer magazine to try out. I am now VERY interested to try some more out!

Some suggested additions for the Swift: Copper Johns in Copper and black in sizes #14 - #18. Flashback PT nymph in #16 and #18. The river was recently stocked, so Wooly Buggers might still be effective. If he is planning on evening fishing, Sulphur Duns, emergers and spinners, in sizes #16 - #20 would be welcome additions.

A short update:

[i]“Hey dad, here’s the photos from today…only a few. More next time. I fished the swift river in the catch and release portion from the y-pool down towards the bridge (about half a mile or so). I was only out there for about two hours. Caught this one, about 15 inches, and lost a couple, but it was a pretty busy day, but I only saw two people pull in any fish. I saw a little surface action as I was leaving, but some storms were moving in so I wanted to get back home. The y-pool itself was too crowded, so I ventured downstream. “swift” is definitely a misnomer. It’s the slowest, clearest water I’ve fished, much different than anything I’ve really nymphed. I THINK it was the Yeller Feller that this one took. I think I had another strike on this one, and one on a cream midge. More to come in a few days…I want to fish the Swift again earlier in the day, and maybe try the deerfield. Maybe try the farmington this weekend…”
