I have been receiving these from him as well,
and NO I don’t like it either. These sites are all copies of each other, and definitely for profit, not for the information value to the readers. Too bad. Another “get rich quick scheme.”

Same here…

“GET THE DRIFT?”

There are anti-spam laws in many places, now. CA has some which apply if you are a CA resident, or if the company is licensed to do business in CA:
[url=http://public.pacbell.net/faq/caspam.html:98a48]http://public.pacbell.net/faq/caspam.html[/url:98a48]

The second one can really take a bite, provided the ISP and the courts are willing to apply the law.

Add me to the list of those spammed by this guy. Some nerve!

REE

Me too.

Mike

There is no greater fan of flyfishing than the worm.

I got it too and I guess I just don’t understand what all the fuss is about. It’s not like the guy stole your identity. To my way of thinking, you post your email address and it’s fair game for those who read it. What’s the difference between that and all the junk mail we get through the post office or marketing phone calls(unless you’ve signed up for the no solicitiation thingee). I got the PA one and went there for a quick glance. It actually looks like a good site. If you don’t like it, or the one you got, ignore the email or block it.

By the way, how can you be sure your email address was gotten here? It could be listed just about anywhere without your knowledge.

Allan

Yeah, I got them too. It’s such poor taste to use the info found on one BBS to “guerilla promote” competing websites…even if, in this case, they can’t ever hope to really compete.

Fishing the Ozarks

ty,

I agree and although I don’t appreciate the use of my email address, I am not about to get my bowels, what’s left of them, in an uproar (-:

In fact, I bet the posting and reading of this thread led to more people going to the advertisers site then his solicitation!

guilty!

Hmmm!! I have found the site interesting, free and with many good links to other things I have an interest in.
At the risk of setting off a war! I feel is was a “Hey, by the way check us out!!”!!
LF & JC the more information I can get on fishing my area I’ll take. How it came to pass, I have no idea!!

I did not get the email, which means that the addys were not just stripped from here and used. Unless my filters canned them before I saw them.

I am with Chris. I use my email for personal communication. Any unsolicited commercial email, from ANYONE, gets canned. If it is a personal message or question, though, I will gladly communicate with anyone here or elsewhere.

Thank you Tyflier…Thank you…You explained EXACTLY My feelings of why I for one did not find this preticular email to MY likeing… It has little to do with what they were pushing…It’s how and where they obtained my email…and I assure you, I know what and where…I may be some dumb…But… I’m not plumb dumb…

Pretty easy to tell…especially since posting this thread what was going on…and sadly prolly still is, The guy checks the profiles of ppl here who post here often…and then sends his…sites which are only links to his pay sites…which is where he lines his pockets…

Either way…I’d hope that all can and do see where this is Immoral…and just plain rude not only to JC and LF…But to EVERY Single member of this site…I for one have found my privelage of visiting this site and it’s vast aray of knowledge and info…worthy of my own sponsorship dollars…and I think that being said…

Gives me reason to post…MY…Opion of this mans actions…I’m sure there are other avenues for which he can “Spread the word” of his …sites…which I for one found notta that even holds a candle to FAOL…as this is not merely a window to other sites…
It’s the world of Flyfishing at ones finger tips…in all it’s glory…And I Need NO… others…this is the only place I come online relateing to Flyfishing…other than sponsors for good solid gear and supplies…

For him to come here for the sole reasons he does…IS WRONG!!!

The only thing that really bothered me about it is that I came here and found out he didn’t get JC and LF’s permission to do it first. That’s just bad biz ethics.

Fishing the Ozarks

I got them too.

I saw a very large increase in my spam after I first put my e-address on this site. It is the only site where I have it posted and the upsurge in spam wan unlikely to have been a coincidence.

Still, I leave my e-mail addy here as it does more good than harm. And also because I use Mail Washer, an anti-spam program I highly recommend.

So let’s compare notes. The SPAM I get is usually a name of a person followed by a topic in nonsensical language probably for avoiding words that would trigger my firewall security settings. I just delete.
Does anyone else get these specific e-mails??

Mark

the only other person who emails the account , Other than the occasional member here is my baby sister…I recieve NO spam at all on that account…as I don’t use it unless I see mail in it…and I check it often by swtching sn’s…not by signing onto it…

I have been advised that using email is a good way to introduce my product to fly fishers and offered email lists. My reaction was no way would I want to conduct business in that manner. I am not fond of receiving unsolicted emails so therefore I won’t partake in the practice. I much prefer the old fashioned way of having my customers show their friends my Dots. I feel this is a more postive way of making them known to fly fishers.

Good for you, Jerry! Don’t buy into the hype. Direct email is only a worthwhile marketing tool when certain conditions are present:

  1. The per transaction pricetag is substantial…in the $100s or $1000s.
  2. The lists are of the highest quality targeted leads…say members of DU for duck hunting stuff, etc. and VERY current.
  3. You’re prepared to repeat the mailing 100s of times.
  4. The email is contructed in such a way as to have a really strong attention getter in the top 1/4 of the body of the email. A lot of folks have the text portion of the browser open to where they actually see the top of each email when they go to delete it.
  5. Current anti-spamblocker defeat mechanisms are being used (this can get expensive).

It never pays to spend money just to annoy/inconvenience people.

Fishing the Ozarks

Marco , Yes I get that garbage all the time . I have a very good spam blocker that gets most of it , enough so the few that get thru are in a small enough number to easily scan and dump . I applaud Dot Man for his ethics . Good on Ya Jerry . I dislike junk mail in my mailbox and I dislike spam on my puter but long ago I decided not to stress about it . If I cant beat it I will ignore it . The use of this sites email list without permission Is just plain rude .
There have been other posts on here in he past where the poster complains "why doesn’t everyone post their email address in their profile ? ". I guess this thread is their answer to that one .
