When I get away from the cube early enough, I try to spend a little while sitting in Starbucks reading one or more nights a week. Currently I’m taking a leisurely tour through “Two Centuries of Soft-hackled Flies” by Sylvster Nemes. I can heartily recommend it to any who are interested in the subject.
I cannot read it without thinking of Donald Nicolson. I haven’t seen any posts by him recently. Has anybody heard from him? Is he doing well? I remember that he had some problems with his vision. Has he improved?
For those who don’t know, his website is home to a fine study on traditional North Country wets and spiders as well as other flies, materials, and history. Be warned! If you like this sort of thing you can spend hours right here: http://www.dtnicolson.dial.pipex.com/
I heard from Donald recently, with an email he sent me. I was worried also!
Seems that he had eye problems, and with successful medical treatment, has save him from losing his sight! He did not say if his eye sight was degraded, or what was the cause. But Donald Nicholson is alive and well!
In a similar incident, I too had eye problems in the past month, with inner eye infection in both eyes. The eye doctor was quick on the diagnosis, and the eye drops cured the infection.

Great PLACE to get lost for a few hours!!! Steve thanks for letting us know he’s doing okay, I orginially chatted with him on another fly board and man what an education!!! Gonna have to break down and print out his web-site so as not to lose any info if it goes down.
Those are the few hours i have here and there during the day, I’ve only made it about a 1/4 way through the site, those book references can really slow you down LOL
