So I'm talking to

a buddy today about birds and such. He tells me he raises and sells (and eats) game birds and fertile eggs. What kind I want to know. Gambel, bob white and mountain quail, chukar and ring neck and golden pheasant. A few other breeds as they come along. He is licensed by the state to do this. What do you do with the feathers I want to know. Got no use for them. Why? Then the light comes on. OH YEAH! You one of them fly tyers. Yep. OH BOY. Going to his place this weekend to check’em out. Jim

Jim,

I had a friend give me some Gambel Quail feathers…body feathers are redish brown with a white center…started using them in place of biots for ‘prince’ like flies…you get that white streak from the center of the feather and can pull the brown fibers down for legs…mouintain quail make excellent small soft hackles…You are going to be in fly tyer heaven playing with all of them feathers.

Have fun,

Buddy
