2 inch minnow i snagged while bass fishing. funny thing was i snagged him and then caught a bass on him before i realized i hooked him!
Never caught a small fish! Ever! and I am sticking to that story period!!
It was on the Firehole and it was a joint effort, since my 5 yr old Son and I were casting my fly rod together. We Picked the line off the water, started the backcast, and lo and behold here comes a 2 inch Rainbow flying through the air!!
Doug
…and I love you and will respect you in the morning! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha…

Oh, here’s the smallest fish I ever caught.
When I was 5-6 years old I had a long bamboo pole with a string, hook, and worm. I caught some fish too small to use for bait.
When I was a lad I had the attention span of a house fly so sometimes I would notice the sculpin dancing by my feet. Needless to say they will take a scud or glo-ball if offered.
 I guess the secret is out
2 inch pinfish while fishing a spoon out of the kayak.
The smallest fish I’ve caught was a 1" RBT on a 18 Parachute Adams! When I set the hook he became a flying fish! I had to go through the brush to find him. He was C&R successfully.
Well besides the usual rainbow fry, I have caught SMALLER caddis pupa on my size 16 caddis poopah.
Caught this little guy with ultralight spinning gear. 8)
That ain’t even close to small. I have taken several fish in the 2" range. I even took a LMB that was little more than 2" long. You have to start thinking “guppies” to understand what I am talking about. And I love 'em all.
Ed
Are we talking intentional or unintentional?
Even though the approximately 2" Brookie in my photo MAY be small; there is a deep dark chapter in my younger years when I went fishing in my brother’s goldfish aquarium.
Them puppies was small!
All released unhurt BTW!
While fishing for LMB one day, I snagged a tiny 1 1/4 inch long bass. I keep my hooks very sharp and the tip caught between his scales along his side. Thirty minutes later using the same fly, I hooked and landed a nine and a half pound bass. Those happen to be the the smallest and largest bass I’ve ever caught; same day, same pond, same fly.
Jim Smith
Mine would have to be a creek chubb caught on a #6 WB that was the same size as the fish
It was the only thing keeping me from going home skunked that cold winter day
Joe,
I may as well tell you the IRONY of a 1" RBT hooked to a “Parachute” Adams, flying through the air, is Very FUNNY!!!
Thanks,
Doug

…and propelled by a “fly rod”…
Just a small bit of humor… <groan>

I caught a bass in my youth that was about an inch. He took a bare size 10 gold hook. The hook was almost too large for his mouth.
I’m not sure it’s the smallest fish I ever caught, (I’ve been fishing fot 65+ years), but last spring, I caught a 3" long Silver Shiner on a 3" long white Zonker.
Bob
Smallest trout on a fly rod. For compariso, that is really a size 18 fly
