I’ll mention the obvious . . Clouser Minnows My favorite is Chartreuse over Orange.

I have to agree with waynep. After all, the Clouser was created to fish for Smallmouth’s if my facts are straight. I personally prefer Chartreuse over White, and maybe a little brown over that Chartreuse.

clousers Chartreuse over White, and orange over brown. I’ll post a pic so you can see what a clouser is if you don’t already know
here ya go

you can do 2 colored or 3 colored ones. with or without flash. dumbell eyes can be any color you wish. there are lots of colors of these flies you can do.
btw
you may want to post this in the warm water forum
pm sent to you shortly
I mentioned the Fire Tiger Clouser for smallmouths. The Chartreuse over White is my #2 Clouser.
Also, any crawdad pattern should work if there are crawfish in the streams your fishing in. Clousers and Near Nuff crawdads are my two main SM patterns.
A note on Clousers. A lot of people put too much material on them. Make them sparse with lots of flash. Let the flash hang out the back a bit longer than the bucktail, or whatever you use. There was an article a few years ago in Fly Tyer showing the “right” way to tie one. Most common mistakes were: Too short, too heavy, too much material, not enough flash. They are not a jig, they are a weighted fly.

Terry Wilson’s Bass Bully. The tying instructions are at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1HoqEMfaUg.
Enjoyed the Bass Bully video and I think the wool head is very interesting. I suppose the color of the fly could work fine in burnt orange and black also.
The tyer was very correct about having the rod tip pointed at the fly while fishing.
Thanks,
Doug
The “Bass Bully” will catch trout, too. I caught a couple of bows on an olive one yesterday morning. Another fly that has worked well here for smallies is a rubber legged Wooly Bugger tied with angora goat dubbing as the body instead of chenille. I tie them in olive, black, ginger, and fiery brown.

flytyer203,
My favorite pattern is the Bunny Baitfish, I posted it a couple years ago on the Fly of the Week. It is a quick and easy tie. I tie it on a tube, but it is very easy to adapt the pattern to a regular hook. When I tie it on a hook, I like to use the Mustad 3366 or the Gamakatsu B10S.

Alberto
wooly buggers, double bunnies
If you are fishing river smallmouth I would go with Murray’s Stremph.
I agree with everyone else, epsy wayne’s FLASH statement…
Last winter, I discovered the Clouser Darter and have been using it almost exclusively this year for SMB. The fish certainly prefer flashabou over crystal flash. The flat strands of flashabou waver in the water and flash akin to a spinner blade. I think it’s a great attractor and the fish agree. They CHARGE the flashabou tied one’s from 10 feet away -vs- follow and might hit the one’s tied with crystal flash.
Simple Sculpin
This pattern is dirt simple and has been working well on river smallies.
3 silver glass beads
grey or dun marabou tied in as for a marabou leech starting in layers at the bend of the hook and ending at the beads.
Favorite hook for this is a 1/0 jig hook with barb squashed.

Many great suggestions! I too like the clouser minnow. In fact, it is the first fly I ever tied. My favorite smb streamer is the chartreuse wooley bugger. I have gradually changed the fly. I tie it with lead dumbell eyes ala clouser-style. I also add two yellow rubber legs on each side. I tie it in a size 4. It is deadly…
