Simms G4 waders

I understand that guide-level waders are made for folks who use them everyday and are thus quite expensive. But these Simms G4 waders seem like a quantum leap–$700?

Any thoughts on what would make waders worth $700?

If they were to never, ever leak, or get a puncture, the seams never separated and they changed with our expanding or shrinking waist lines, kept you cool and comfortable when it’s warm, and warm and toasty when it’s freezing, then maybe I’d invest $700 in a pair of waders.

I’m sure Simm’s makes very good waders (I have used a pair for the last 4 years), but have a hard time justifying that large a price tag. I could spend two days on a river, with a guide fishing for steelhead or Sea Run Cutts for that much.

Just my .02.

REE…I’ll raise you .02…

redacted,

They would have to give me two pairs, so i’d always have one to wear while they fix the other one. Because you know it’s going to leak.

Yep, you could buy 2 waders from how many brands and have money to squander

although they look good… I like the zipper…

Just incase your night fishing and its really cold… and you drank to much coffee…

plus the extra pocket are nice to…

but… for $700… yes its alittle to much…

Become a guide, you’ll prolly get them for half price…now how good a value are they?

I know Simms makes incredible stuff. In the Fly Fish America 2007 gear guide there is a great feature on how Simms makes waders.

The G4’s have some really nice features. What surprised me was that they were 75% higher than the G3’s. 75%!. If the G3’s are worth $400, I could see $500 or even $550 for the G4’s . . . but $700 . . . wow.

simms offers in house financing   for the trout bums out there

I heard they’re coming out with a new version in 2008 that is $900!

They come with a drop seat…

…in case you had prune Danish with that coffee…

I thought last year was bad. I went thru 3 pairs of waders. But it gets worse. Two weeks ago, I drop one of my new neoprene gloves in the river. I go downstream and cross the river in an attempt to find it since it was an X-Mas gift from my wife. I then have to bushwack the otherside of the river but no luck in finding the glove. When I cross back over the river, my waders quickly fill with water. The picker bushes had slashed multiple gashes in the waders. So I go and buy another pair last week. Guess what happened yesterday! I wasn’t even off a path! Still, I refuse to be a poster boy for Simms. I’d rather put my money elsewhere.

I have spent that much on a good rod, I guess I would go for the waders. Being a woman, I do like that zipper
WJ makes a pair with a zipper also for half the price worth my looking at also.

The rod will last a lifetime.

Any features the G4 has, should be in the G3 for the same price. It’s called product improvement. Simms is a rip off.

I have been thinking about that. I don’t know any flyfishing equipment that costs that much, but I could picture a great rod or reel–something that was exquisitely made and would last for decades. Aside from the zipper (which will trickle down to other models in years to come) what else would make these worth $300 more than G3’s?

Haven’t a clue, other than maybe new tech in the seams. Why are they so much more than the WJ’s? SIMMS I guess. Which isn’t a bad thing

I noticed LL Bean sells the Simms G4’s. They have a guide program too !

I have 2 pair of $150 waders so I always have a back up in case of repair. Unless these Simms have a full lifetime warranty they seem a tad expensive. The zipper is great, but Hodgman now sells their Weir model with a zipper for $150 at cabela’s.
