Silk Line Question - line end loop method

I am considering purchasing a Phoenix silk line. I think I understand that they do not come with factory installed loops at the line ends (i.e. to facilitate flipping double taper lines or attaching leaders).

How does one construct a strong, long lasting loop that transits the smaller guides of bamboo rods and doesn’t damage a the integrity of a $240 line?

Thanks,

Dana

Form a loop with the tip of the line and wrap it with tying thread, form a nice taper from line to the start of the loop. Dip it in varnish, let it dry, dip it again let it dry, dip it a third time, let it dry (after 3 coats of varnish the wraps will be smooth, the first 2 coats sink into the thread) and it’s set for life!

I’m guessing that you dip only the portion that is thread-wrapped? Like put masking tape on the parts of the loop and line that you don’t want varnished?

Ray, (or others - weigh in!) Is there an ideal loop size?

The opening of the loop (inside) on mine are about 1/4 of an inch. I dip the loop and the thread in the varnish until the thread wraps are submerged and let it hang over night.

Thanks Ray.
