JC put the Hummingbird feader up today…and

yes, it is wonderful, but a bit scary too. THe flowers are a month ahead of time. We have a maple budding out! The local river is at September volume. Nature is in charge, not us, eh?

You guys are lucky, your about six weeks ahead of us. I think we’re out of the worst of it now, only three weeks 'till it’s time to plant the peas.

Early Spring is always welcome to those of us who have severe cases of Cabin Fever. The drawback for the Dry Side of Washington is the late season fishing will be poor and the forest fires are going to be horrendous. River flows are far below normal. Snow pack is almost non-existant. My guess is that the prime rivers of North Idaho will be so bad off by late summer, that they will be either restricted or closed all together. I cry for the Westslope Cutts. I hope they fare well.
I pray I am wrong.

Work is a means for people to afford their fishing.

Spring’s around the corner here in West Virginia too, I saw my first pair of Robins at the feeder Monday; now to see that first Bluebird!!!

Mike

Signs of Spring…

Ice Houses, being removed from the lakes.

Close out on Winter Clothing and Cold Weather Gear.

Lawn & Garden Shows, Boat and Vacation Shows at the Arena’s.

Icicles hanging from the roof gutters, some over 2 feet long, and they are dripping.

Radiators cooling fan finally kicking in, when driving.

Snow melting in the yard, small patches of brown lawn showing.

Sun Porch is warm enough to sit on, and read the paper or a book, in the afternoon.

Trout Opener only 4 weeks away, and Open Water Fishing Opener only 10 weeks away.

Daylight hours getting longer.

Robins have returned, and can hear their Morning Song, even if the trees are still bare, and there is still snow on the ground.

Signs of spring, …

We have some friends coming up from Houston for a brief visit at the end of the month.
They would like to spend one day, 3/31, trout fishing. The Lackawanna might be ok, but right now, I have 18" of snow in the backyard, and the forecasts don’t forsee any immediate warming. One can only hope for the best.
Is it Spring yet?

Bob

There is a fine line between fly fishing, and standing in the water waving a stick.

Spring is showing up here in extreme NE California also. The killdeer, meadow larks, and sand hill cranes are back and making a ruckous. The ground squirrels are out and about and the antelope have returned to the hay fields. The geese have started pairing up also. Gotta love spring!

hmmm spring … under 18 inches of snow and a foot of ice still on the lakes and ponds … someone claimed they had a robin in there yard … lmao i said with what a pair of snow shoes on … spring will be here followed by the heat and humidity of summer then we will all pray for fall and winter …just enjoy every day .

LF wife and i have been hanging humming bird feeders for 5 years now… think we have 6 of them …no sightings of them yet … your sooo lucky. Not to mention all the butterfly and hummingbird flower gardens ive dug up and redone.

Signs of spring? Already?

The one robin we’ve seen spent the winter here so that don’t really count. The back half of the hay loft is showing, there is no more room to push snow in the dooryard and ‘the girls’ are getting cranky.

Put away the fly-tying books and catalogs, replacing them with veterinary books and catalogs. Hoping for two more weeks of ‘good’ ice and a quick ice-out. Plus I’m wearing four layers in the barn instead of five!

The Thin Mints are in! Spring ain’t far behind!

Deanna, you must be having weather like we have here in Boise. I was working in the yard yesterday and didn’t need a jacket. The early season flowers are blooming and it is acting like spring. Hans, I sure would be happy to get some of your snow. We are looking at a pretty bad year. The spring fishing should be good but not sure what summer will bring. If you take Gretchen and me up on our invitation, come early! Take care & …

Sigs of Spring you say? Not here…snows coming down again. The last batch had melted down to about 4 inches by yesterday but now its building up again. Humming Birds? Nope, not here…we won’t even put the feeders up for another month and a half. We may see the humers by summer but only briefly. We only have two seasons here, winter and the 4th of July. So if you don’t see them by the 4th, look for them crossing the Gulf because winter will be settin’ in again.

make a rod, catch a fish

Deathy Valley Temps are running at 90 degrees F this week already. The Spring wildflower bloom is profuse with the best bloom in 60 years is in progress. All due to a very wet winter her in CA.

Most Americans seasonally visit DV right about now. Most Foriegn visitors wait until mid-summer for the 130 degree temps. Go figure…
