Side Effects of Cholesterol Lowering Statin Drugs

I have been on a cholesterol lowering drug for 2 years now.
The first two drugs I tried caused really bad side effects.
The third seemed to do the trick.

My cholesterol was never really terribly high. My doctor
recommended I take it or some type of supplement or drug. I followed
what my doctor wanted and went on the drug.

In the last 13 months I have had constant leg pain and knee pain.
I attributed it to getting old and my degenerative discs in my
back.

I ran in to my High School friend Cheryl McManamy over the Apple Fest holiday
weekend in Gays Mills. She told that she was also prescribed meds for her
cholesterol. Cheryl told me that she has such bad leg and knee pains that she
took herself of the statins.

Her symptoms sounded exactly like mine. I thanked her for the valuable
information she gave me. I conferred with my wife “nurse” and she suggested the
same thing and that I should go off the statins.

I have been off the statins for 11 days now and I can feel my knees and legs already going
back to normal. I take Fish Oil tablets over the counter now to help with my cholesterol.

Thanks for the information. I have been trying to avoid going on statins and now have another reason to avoid them! I don’t need any MORE knee pain! I’ve been taking fish oil pills and eating lots of oats and it does seem to help.

Thanks,
Ted

My wife experienced similar effects. She was in so much pain within hours she was unable to continue taking the meds. She tried several different types including the psudostatins (sic) with the same side effects.

my doctor oked stopping taking it.

The Vets has had me on Symvastatin for about 3 years now. I was getting really weak in my legs and arms, so I cut my dose in half. I’m still weak but not getting any worse. Future tests will tell if it’s a right move.

As a FYI on these… I’ve been on a couple. Lipitor was a killer for me. Couldn’t deal with the leg pains. I switched to Crestor and am significantly better with minimal pain or soreness. What exasperates it is being dehydrated. Usually when I have muscle soreness, I’m usually wondering why… then I remember… more water.

My cholesterol was always between 115 and 118 and my doctor wanted me to take meds for it. It is now down in the 70 range. But after reading Lotech’s response I may question my doctor. He has me taking Simvastatin and I have been having weakness in my arms and legs also.

Rocky

I take the Sevestatin and have had no problems with it.

The late JC was also on a couple Lipitor was one he couldn’t tolerate either…It’s really hard to know what to actually take with all the warning on these meds, plus I know the doctors really aren’t reading up on each one, they take the word of the drug rep who calls on them. You really do need to Google up whatever new stuff is prescribed and also see that it doesn’t interact with whatever else you are taking. Some one has to be accountable and unfortunately it is you.

Don’t want to **** anyone off, but maybe you should consider eating healthier (in lieu of the fatty foods you’re always posting)?

Jist sayin’.

my good cholesterol has always been low and my bad is borderline no matter what I eat.
I believe many pills are over prescribed.

Wife is going to whip me in to shape this winter she said.

Omega3s are on the shopping list also.

also going to cook more with one of my favorite ingredients

When its my time to fly sobeit, no meds for me , if it is due to my poor eating habit my fault and I will never look to blame anyone but me…

Never going to happen… Yum Yum…

heck this is my current desktop…lol

This one is much healthier than this one

Border line is what doctor said.

Easily controlled by diet.

he suggested tuna fish…salmon…

and of COURSE

Trout

and BTW this post is very informative and in no way should one do something against your doctors orders without researching and discussing such with ones doctor 1st…

always be prudent and question authority …

Be safe
