I’ve always hated the straining part of making dubbing felt. Love the results, but HATED the mess.
Well while earning fishing points following my wife on a shopping trip, I started looking at the nylon socks they have in the shoe department for trying on shoes without socks on and got an idea. Tonight I finally tested it out.
After mixing the fur in water I poured out the concoction into the sock and poof, a self contained strainer I could squeeze out and hang to dry and they are free! SO EASY and if I wanted to I could make as many mixes at one time as I wanted. Before I used a framed screen, but I only had one, so it was a one at a time ordeal and I usually tipped or dropped the screen at least once during the drying process. For anyone out there that mixes their dubbing this way, try it out. It is KICK AZZ.
As a bonus, these things STRETCH. I can fit one over my net, so I will keep one in my pack now if the need for a large seine presents itself.
