Dang it that brings back memories. Although I was sling hardware and plastic worms when my ole buddy Pete and I used to fish Shoals Creek usually around the US 72 bridges to the mouth. Pete was a twice wounded member of the 82nd Airborne (All American Division) in WWII, he didn’t survive his last surgery a couple of years ago.
Sorry about your friend Jess. Fishing buddies get to be close, And they are really missed when gone.
Most of my fishing begins where Wilson Lake ends several miles up Shoals from the Bridges on 72. Only about 10 min. from home, and easy access for wading.
I used to put my boat in at the ramp on 72 but never fished in Shoals Creek to much. Go to Wilson dam now and fish that end of Wilson Lake. I want to get to Bluewater Creek and fish the grass before it gets too high. maybe I can this week sometime Had eye surgery last two weeks.

I hear Bluewater is good, though i have never fished there I know a lot who have. I don’t do a lot of boat fishing even though I have an older semi-vee with a little 5 on it, along with a canoe, a kayak and a float tube. Most times I dont have the spare time to launch and load. Ten minutes to good wadeable water with good fishing is hard to beat.
Hope you get over the eye problem and get back into your routine. I might add that this afternoon’s fishing was about the same excep I caught 3 spots about 12 inches each.

Thanks David I hope to go this weekend.

What part of NW Alabama is Shoals Creek located in? I’ll be in the Huntsville area in June. (Meeting my son from Ft Rucker half way.) What is the public access like? Any recommendations?

Shoals Creek is about 70 miles from Huntsville on Hwy 72. Where elhead is fishing is north of 72 where it narrows and is shallower I think. I do most of my fishing on Wheeler Lake from a boat and have not fished much in Shoals but have caught some there.
Caught this at Bluewater Creek last week.
