Bluegill222, we have a few warm days coming up, maybe things will get better. You know it usually doesn’t freeze for long here, so the whole winter possible.

I got out to the lake Friday and though i din’t pick up any lmbs, i saw some and got a couple good takes but no hookups. I will prolly go to the lake one or two more times and that will be about it for the rest of the year for my bass fishing. Steelhead and trout are starting go though and the boa leeches work for those fish too.

The rod is a used G. Loomis 5wt I bought off a fellow FAOL member. The reel is a Cabela’s SLA fly reel I picked up on clearance for $55.

Got to go out tonight. Brought in a small bass and a pretty nice crappie. With the colder weather, fishing is slower but still managed to bring in a couple fish and enjoyed a perfect fall evening on the lake.

That SLA reel is NICE!! I had one(until it fell out of my kayak). Watching for a deal. WHERE did you find that deal. Cabela’s has it on sale for like $95 right now.

Got the SLA reel straight from Cabela’s this Summer. One of those things that I think was an error on somebody’s part. The reels went on clearance…I was checking them out on-line…the silver ones were about the price you mention…the black ones were subtantially cheaper…in fact…I think they were the same price as the spare spool! So…I ordered one. The next day the on-line price was revised to be the same as the silver reels.
Same thing happened with a Wright & McGill Dragonfly reel… found a website that was selling them for the same price that others were selling the spare spool. Ordered it, and the next day their price also went up to match everyone else’s price. Got lucky.
Actually, wintertime is when I do most of my trout fishing, because there are less people out and about. It’s more peaceful.
Although I don’t use fly gear for them in winter, it is also the time I focus on crappie, White Bass, and Stripers. They like the cooler temperatures.
I wish the white bass stayed active up here too. But once the water drops below 50-55 F, they can be very tough to find. And…I think we’ve dropped below 50 already. Bummer! :rolleyes:
Went a couple of days ago in a couple of local ponds and had 2 good trips. One pond I went to I caught 12 lmb and 4 bg. I was using a light tan foam grasshopper and gurgle pop. The other pond I went to the next day I caught 29 lmb and about a dozen bg using grasshopper, gurgle pop and top water popper I made from flip flops. Since then the wind has been high and temp has dropped about 15 degrees so I am not sure how things are now. I did not keep any of fish. Just enjoyed getting out and getting a chance to go. mathcarver
Fly-fished a local public pond after dark last night. I got out there from about 7:20pm until 9pm. I stuck with my usual technique and fly. It was SLOW for me.
I did find 2 pockets of crappies in fairly shallow water, and managed to land 8 of them, plus 3 bluegills, all on a yellow boa yarn leech I had tied.
The fish I caught hit and fought well. Lost a few, of course?one of which I was interested to see, because if felt like a bigger crappie than the typical shorties. It shook free near shore, however.

I caught a nice bass today using the float 'n fly method. According to what I’ve read this is a good method for catching big bass in cold water. I think they’re on to something as the water temperature was 48
We (wife and I ) are heading out in the morning for the last two or three days of great fishing at Diamond Lake beofre the season closes. So long as the wind stays down we should have a great time.
Even sprung for a room as they had a $59 special going on.
