Just noticed and read JC’s article on the new SA reusable line to leader system. My 75-year-old Dad has some mild vision problems, but it makes it very difficult for him to tie on a new fly or new leader on the river. This might be just the ticket for him – he could tie on flies at home with big jeweler’s magnifiers, and use the click lock to switch leaders with pre-attached flies or to sink tip right on the stream with no knots.
Thanks for the heads up on this new product, JC – we’ll be watching for it. Frankly, SA is not my favorite brand of leader, though I use their fly line and system X fly boxes all the time. Something like this might be just the ticket for my Dad. He does OK with loop connectors, but it’s still hard for him to put the fine tippet end thru the loop while on the river.
We’ll post a review when we finally get our hands on this new product and try it…hopefully along with a pic of my Dad with a big fish!
DanBob,
Even better for your dad, JC didn’t do anything with it, but there is included a little tool where you can ‘park’ the connectors until you need them. Also good for poor vision and shakey hands!
Aren’t there product(s)out there to assist in tying leaders to flies? Seems like I’ve seen them. I’m gettin’ there, and I’m sure a lot of others are there already, so…Info anybody?
Anyone Know if these new connects will allow the buyer to apply their own leader materials…
and if so…will they work with a furled leader…??..Just courosity getting the better of me…as I dislike loops or type of weed/grime grabbing things in my line/leader setups…
Well as per the Article…I’d have to conclude that if You can use these with a sink tip…should surely hold a furled leader no prob…Ty for pointing this out Danbob and for writting it JC…!!
I do tend to get in the boards and lost…I even remembered the chatrooms this eve!! talked with Jack and RW was a kewl eve!!
Great! My Dad likes furled leaders, too, and would like to attach them easily. I’ll always try new stuff from Scientific Anglers – those 3M folks must have some clever fishermen working there. I just finished the winter project of moving all my flies to SA System X fly boxes. DANBOB
