Scharabun?s SA Hopper SBS

This stimi variation came from Alberta tyer Roman Scharabun (SA is short for Southern Alberta); since it came from just up the road there’s no reason to think it wouldn’t work on this side of the 49th Parallel.

thread - UTC 140 yellow/Danville 6/0 hot orange
tail - deer hair red
rib - x-small wire gold
butt - 2mm foam yellow
abdomen - 1mm foam yellow
body hackle - brown (undersize by 2)
underwing - Krystal Flash pearl
wing - deer hail bleached
thorax - Angel Dub olive
hackle - grizzly

Part 1

Mash barb, start thread at 2/3 mark and wrap to bend

Clean, stack, measure (gap width past bend) a clump of deer hair; tie in/trim

Taper foam strip (3/4 gap width); measure (gap width), tie in/trim

Tie in body strip and rib

Brush on some Super Glue, wrap body; tie off/trim

Part 2

Tie in body hackle; wrap to bend

Capture tip of hackle with wire; continue ribbing thru hackle, helicopter end, cover with thread; trim hackle tip

Tie in KF; fold, tie down

Clean, stack, measure (tips to butt) a clump of deer hair; tie in/trim

Thread shift; tie in hackle at base of wing

Dub thread/dub thorax

Part 3

Wrap hackle, tie off/trim, whip finish, SHHAN
