Sanford's Wing Bud Emerger SBS

More fun with CdC; another one where you can get by without having to use the good stuff. Tied here as a PMD; change color/size to suit your needs.

hook -Dai Riki 125 #16
thread - Danville 6/0 pale yellow
shuck - Congo Hair brown
rib - x-small wire copper
abdomen - pheasant tail
wing case - .5mm foam tan
wings - CdC white
thorax - CdC yellowish tan

Part 1

mash barb, start thread; tie in CH, fold, tie in rib and wrap everything halfway down the bend; trim shuck (gap width)

tie in PT; wrap to point above point, tie off/trim

counterwrap rib, helicopter end, cover with thread

tie in foam (1/2 gap width)

prep CdC feather

Part 2

tie in a bit long; pull backward to puff up wing, secure with a few more wraps

lather, rinse, repeat on the far side; trim tips

fold a few CdC feathers, capture tips in clip; trim away quills

create loop, slip clip into the loop, capture butts and release clip; spin to create hackle

Part 3

stroke fibers back while wrapping thorax

divide CdC on top, pull wing case forward

tie off/trim foam, half hitch x 2, SHHAN; trim (scissors or fingernails) CdC to length

Great looking bug, Scott. Not sure how useful those wings are, but still an impressive tie.
