Salmon flies

Okay…I’m pleading ignorance here. Why are most salmon flies tied on hooks with up-turned eyes? We don’t have many salmon on Long Island :), so I don’t have a clue. Does it affect the way the fly behaves…or is it just a matter of preference? Can someone clue me in? Thanks.

Ken

If your talking tradistion it an inline eye dealing with silk gut for the eye on a blind eye hook. Most salmon fly hooks are up turned but if you wish to tye a salmon fly on a different hook upturned down turned ring eye is up to you.
