Salmo salar '06 FishIn! Ste-Marguerite Rv Quebec

Happy New Year 2006!!

Well, … we’ll get this rolling (again).

As I mentionned last year, … we’d like to do a regional FishIn on my HomeWaters[/url:ea98a] the Ste-Marguerite River (Saguenay) here in Quebec. Monday, August 7 - Sunday August 13

Where are we?? There’s a Google Earth file @: http://pages.videotron.com/fcch/Places/steMargQcRevB.kmz[/url:ea98a]

In the old thread, we wanted to have everyone at Bardsville, right on the river where there are some cottages. IMHO,… I don’t think the Association will be able get the site out of moth balls in time.

The best place to get lodging will be the Ferme 5 Etoiles (The 5 Star Farm) : http://www.ferme5etoiles.com/en/index.html[/url:ea98a]

They have cottages, bed 'n breakfasts, bunk house, camping, teepee’s, a restaurant. I’ll also try to wrangle a conference room for us.

This site is in Sacr?-Coeur (Holy Heart) 15 minutes from Tadoussac Quebec and 15 minutes from Prime waters. In Sacr?-Coeur, there are 2-3 other motels.

The River:
There are 3 distinct seasons on our home waters:
[ul]
[li]June-July Fresh from the salt adult Atlantics and some adult sea run brookies.[/:m:ea98a][/li][li]Mid July - Sept 15th Adults salmon (getting dark), adult sea runners, Grisles (juvi salmon)[/:m:ea98a][/li][li]Sept 16 - Oct 15th Juvi sea run brookies (Salmon is closed as well as the upper half of the river)[/*:m:ea98a][/ul][/li]
IMHO, … the best time to visit this river would be late July - mid August. Less bugs, less heat, MORE trout, Grisles have arrived and many adult salmon are still active.

Unfortunately, the last 2 weeks of July is the traditional summer holiday season, so travel is less pleasant, holtels are a bit rare and there could be more anglers on the river.

So far, the best date I can see would be the week BEFORE the Au Sable FishIn (that would make our get together Monday, August 7 - Sunday August 13.

Rates:
As on all Salmon rivers in Quebec, te river is managed by a “Zec”. What’s a Zec? It is a non-profit organisation that has been mandated by the governement to manage the ressource: http://www.asf.ca/Journal/1999/sum99/99sumqcmid.htm[/url:ea98a]

Access to salmon fishing in Quebec entails 2 fees: (1) License and (2) Rod fees.

Licences in 2005 were: (in $Cdn)
Non resident for Atlantic salmon is 31$ per day or 112$ for the season (maximum of 7 salmon)…

You can also get a non-resident C&R licence for 10.25$ for the season.

Note: With the C&R salmon license, you can keep trout for the BBQ.

Note: it’s a salmon river, so you need a salmon licence, even if you 're fishing for trout (they are sea runners), so a Quebec freshwater licence is not sufficient.

Rod fees:
Rod fees are to give you access to the river. the river is divided into a multitude of Zones. There are limited and unlimited zones.(limited being the # of anglers per day).
In August, unlimited zone will be 1-2-3 and costs 38.25$cdn per day.
Unlimited zones are about 54.77$cdn per day.
Sounds expensive, … but no compared to a day of snowmobiling

Further, … the Zec here is not an Outfitter, so Guides are not mandatory. The Wardens who are ever present can point out where fish are and we plan to be there for the week to show folks around and make sure everyone has a good time.

There is also fishing in the salt (yes the Pirates are Welcome) … On tidal waters, no rods fees, nor licences needed.

The River Association doesn’t have an English WebSite, but SalmonQuebec has more info too @: http://www.saumonquebec.com/NASApp/sqc/actions/showRivierePresentation?rv=38&rg=2&lg=en[/url:ea98a]

Well, … how about it ??

For those of you who have already expressed interest, … this posting was e-mailed to you as a reminder.

The good Lord willing, JC and I will be there. We have also invited Chris Marshall to come (published of the Canadian Fly Fisher magazine) and Faruk Ekich has a place very nearby and will attend.

LF, … Faruk Ekich tried to contact me last summer but we never managed to hook up. I’ll try him again over the winter.

He has a place right next to the upper reaches of the river and also has some solid knowledge about the fishing in the salt (fjord) for sea run brookies.

LF, …

FUN!! I only tried the salt this past season on the tail end of things. I think we’ll be on the banks of the fjord in the early season this year too.

Dang it we have a wedding or we would attend, same for the Ny fish in, Next year for sure. Michele and I love the area.

Hope it works out and ya get a bunch of good folks to attend.

Philip

Excus my spelling and gramma, I hooked Mondays and Fridays so I could Hunt or fish.

Chris, I wish I could say I could come up. I’ve often thought how nice it would be to see your home river and fish with you. I’m afraid this year it isn’t going to happen as I promised my sister I’d try to get out to northern California to visit her for a couple of weeks, then my son has Junior Conservation Camp for two weeks in August also. I’ve checked out some of the links you have posted before and it has whetted my appetite to get up there and see it in person someday. Best Wishes for a great time this year, Jim

Jim, … no problem, … after all, … we’ll always be here.

nearnuff, … Hey … sounds good

Chris,
As much as I would LOVE to be there, you know I’m tied up with our Michigan Fish-In, also in August. Good luck with yours…one of these days, we have to wet a line & we will.
Mike

This site’s about sharing!

I wonder if I can persuade the boss to cough up the airfare…

Mike? If the good Lord is willing, and the credit cards aren’t maxed out, we plan on fishing with Chris on the Ste-Marguerite and then fishing with you on the Au Sable - that is called 2 weeks vacation.

LF (et.al.),

We could also look into day trips around the area. There are 4 salmon rivers here (5 if we include La Malbaie).

There is also TONS of opportunities here for lake and river fishing, mostly trout, … but if you want Pike, Perch, Walleyes …) there are opportunities within 60 minutes driving (see next monday’s article )

There’s also the salt!!

(oh did we mention whale watching?)

(Let’s see Micus hook one of these
