Question for you great rod builders. I kinda like the Sage 99 6wt but not a fan of the fighting butt. It would seem to me you would have to save weight by using a regular reel seat. Can one build it without the fighting butt and if so, can you think of any negative affect it would have on the finished rod?

I truly cannot answer your question.
There are several fine builders here who could duplicate this rod, without fighting butt, for a lot less money.
I’m sure some will chime in.
Of course it can be built without the fighting butt and will likely perform better than the factory rod.
