So I am curious as to the thoughts on the variation I made of a Royal Coachman, and a few other patterns I have included. They are in PMD and Mahogany Dun patterns. Just curious as to anyones thoughts. All have been very productive in catching fish.
They’re interesting and nicely tyed. But they are ugly fly patterns. Then again, who the heck am I? Certainly I’m not a fish and if I ‘knew’ what the fish would take each time, I’d only carry several of the same pattern that particular time. Glad they work for you.
Oh! Fished dry or wet?
They generally fish dry but at times fish wet, as I don’t treat them with floatant. I did tie them in mind of a Tenkara Kebari, but they fish extremely well with a traditional set up. How would I write it up? I have a few LaFontaines’s books! I almost wonder if the reverse hackle works as an emerger.
Allow me to add and somewhat correct my previous response. I thought I had seen some pattern style very similar to what you tyed but couldn’t recall what it was. It just hit me. It’s a ‘Funneldun’ sans tail.
Any pattern can be tyed to be up or down. I’ve seen funnelduns tyed with hair or hackle that land with barb up or down. Will I direct you “to a couple examples of a funnel dun fly not tied for fishing USD?” - I’m not going to search the internet, so No!
