2 winters ago I was fortunate enough to have a friend help me build a cane rod in his basement shop. He has built quite a few and does a pretty nice job. Since then the itch has continued to grow and I have accumulated the required tools and materials to start my own little hobby shop.
After some trial and error I finally have a Paul Young Midge ready to varnish with a second rod I should be final planing this week (Dickerson 8013). If all goes well about a month from now I should have a couple rods ready to cast. I have to say I have enjoyed the tool making but now that I have produced something resembling a rod I am very excited to see the finished product.
