road trip from the kansas city area

anybody up for a road trip? got the urge to catch some trout and am headed to bennett spring in the early am on saturday. got a diesel volkswagen that’ll get us there in style and economy. contact me if you wanna go!

I was at Bennett for 3 days last weekend, stayed at Larry’s.
Caught some fish. Weather was absolutely great.
You probably wont be as lucky this weekend…weatherwise.

it’s actually supposed to be sunny and 42 to tomorrow. i’ll actually be happy to just wet my line for a trout. been awhile.

I had good luck the a small (12) brown Woolybugger with a bit of flash in the tail about 3" below a #B split shot with idicator, upstream cast and short strips (2-3")as it drifted downstream.

cool, just happen to have a couple of those in my fly box. plan on trying some cracklebacks and the ever popular glo-balls and black and yellow jigs. also purchased a couple of size 8 renegades today. don’t know if anyone on this board knows lem hutton from independence, but he passed away wed. wanda at rainbow fly shop is selling renegades (mr. hutton’s favorite fly) to fund a memorial bench at bennett. didn’t know him that well, but did receive some casting instruction from him and found him to be very patient and gracious. stop by the rainbow fly shop and buy a couple flies if you can.

Lem Hutton was a neat guy. We had the privilege of knowing him and fishing with him on several occasions.

He fished with Matt, Leigh and me one afternoon a number of years ago, when my kids were in high school. (They’re now 31 and 29) We left the spring late and went to the Brown Trout for dinner. Lem had his “trout socks” on the outside of his slacks. Just as we went in the front door; Lem took my daughter’s arm; very formally; and entered the restaurant serenading her with Mademoiselle from Armentieres. A great evening.

Do you remember when he owned the Sand Springs Restaurant?

Lem Hutton will be sorely missed. Never saw him when he was anything but happy!

I an deeply saddened to hear that Lem has passed. I had a lot of fun hanging out with him. I wont eulogize him, as there are so many more qualified than me to do so. Let me just say that that I shall truly miss seeing him in or on the crick.
Yours

Gentlemen,
Very nice tributes. You made me feel that I wish I had known him. He must have been a wonderful human being.
