PS: A blaze orange parachute would be even more visible at longer distances.

Agreed. Hot orange is my preferred parachute post color; I can see it a lot better than any other color (hot pink is second best).

The hackle’s from a cape I bought probably 25 years ago; not as dense as today’s stuff but I love the color.
