Rio lumalux fly line

I have not posted anything in a long time, but here goes with a question.Any thought on the lumalux fly line by Rio, glows in the dark.I’m thinking it might be a good line to fish in the evening or into the darkness, once trout go into hiding until darkness in the heat of the summer??

Just so you understand I’m not ignoring you. Nope, not a thing. But, does that say something? It might. If they were great or crap I am sure we would hear about them on here. But… not a word. Either way. So, for what it’s worth, if you get one, let us know.

Oh, this too. We had a glow-in-the-dark line a few years ago. A guy in Florida who fished something at night wanted to ‘test’ it for us. We sent it and never heard from him again. Nothing. Oh well…

Are you talking about the Rio Aqualux?

I think that line is only available as a clear intermediate sink from 7weight up. The running line can be made visible at night if charged with a flashlight. Also the head is 40’ so you don’t see any running line until the head is outside the rod tip.

I have it on my 8 weight. It’s designed for striper fishing and that’s what I bought it for.

To me, it doesn’t sound like what you’d want for trout fishing.

I also have one for an 8wt. just for striper fishing. I love mine, it shoots well, and seems to stay slick for a long time. The glowing part is a cool feature too.

I bought a 6 wt Lumalux floating line. I thoght it would be interesting to use in dim light situations. It is. It is even more intersting in the dark. It’s really great to be able to trace the line through the night sky and very helpful to see instantly where you get hung up behind you in trees, bushes, etc.

I also have a 7 wt Intermediate sinking Lumalux line. Haven’t tried it yet but it should be great for still water and impoundments.

Unfortunately, you will have some difficulty finding these lines. Rio stopped production. I guess they didn’t sell enough of them.

aka Cap’n Yid.

A more experienced local guide swears by the lumalux fly line for the egg laying caddis which return at early evening. It is still listed in the 2006 K&K fly fishing catalog, but I not sure it’s available!?Thank for all the feedback…

K&K has an 800 number. Call them.
