Report on the new Regal

I have tied on a Regal vise for the last 25 years plus or minus, and am a Regal fan. I have both regular jaws and the midge jaws. Nothing wrong with the old vise except that I had a bee in my bonnet for the new one they just introduced with the stainless steel jaws.

I’ve had it for about a month now, works just like the old one, but has some differences that I REALLy like. The lever is slightly changed (no big deal there) but the jaws have been redesigned to come to a fine point. Much finer than the earlier midge jaws and a real joy to use with the smaller hooks. A small groove set back from the tip takes care of the larger hooks.

This will be my vise if I’m still tying after another 25 years.

Jim,

I saw the new models at the Denver show. Am waiting on Regal who promised me loaners to do an updated review on them.

Cheers,
Hans W

Thanks for the report Jim. I love my regal and am so used to it I probably will never get rid of it.
I am glad you let us know about the new stainless jaws as I just broke a piece off of one side of my standard jaws while tying on a rather small hook I did’nt have clamped in good and pulled it out.

Now I have a reason to get a new one.

One question though! Do you think I need the midge jaw if the new one is smaller at the tip?

A wise man learns from others”

cctyer, You will not need the midge jaws with the new stainless steel model. The new jaws come to a much finer point than do the older midge jaws.

Fish’n Nick , I haven’t had that happen in 25 years of using the vise,. You just need to learn how to properly use your tools.
Let’s see $200 divided by 25 years comes out to about $8 per year. That’s about 3 gallons of gas!
