Report from Lake Fork

I fished Lake Fork on Saturday. The cold front last Wednesday has pushed most of the fish back off their beds again (second time in 2 weeks), but I managed to hook 6 bass, and got 3 to the boat. I had a very good fish up to the boat,(7-8 lbs) and she got off with a head shake. I probably didn’t have the hook set good enough. All the hits came on a bream colored Zonker type fly with the barred rabbit strip in chartreuse, olive and black bars. Overall a very nice day with Rob Woodruff.

Nice bass, and welcome to FAOL! That is a nice reminder of what spring will bring here in OHIO in another month or so. I hope to see more of your reports this year.

Those are some fat, healthy looking fish you got there. Hope you get some pics of one like the one you lost, sooner better than later.

qualey99,
Thanks for your report! Does this image represent the fly you used?:http://www.flytyingforum.com/uploads/img44554cc127cef.jpg

Welcome for starters, nice looking bass and can I ask what kind of fly are you using ?

Doug,
This is the fly that we used with most success. It is tied on a 2-0 hook, and is 4 1/2 inches long. The body is a sparkle chenille with orange, and yellow bucktail tied under the throat, chartreuse buck-tail wing overlaid by squirrel tail. The rabbit strip is the triple dyed magnum strips from Orvis. this is the one that looks like a bream, and he uses one in black and white to represent thread-fin shad and he ties it on a #2 hook.
Hope this is helpful.
