I know this has been brought up many times before, but try as I might, the search feature just doesn’t show me what I need.
The rubber “O” ring that goes on the head of my Renzetti Traveler has finally given up the ghost. That means that I have to squeeze the bottom of the vise to make the jaws open. A real pain when I’m trying to get some flies done for a friend.
I know soneone once mentioned what hardware store “O” ring fits the bill, but can’t for the life of me remember what size it was.
I’d use the old one, but it disintegrated when it passed on.
If anyone remembers what size “O” rings fits the Renzetti Traveler, I’d appreciate finding out.
Oh, and the spare I have tuckedaway in a safe place is still there, safe and sound. I just can’t remember where that safe place is.
the inside diameter of the o ring is 3/8’ in the meantime just take a regular rubber band and while stretching it a little keep making loops around the jaws until it is snug.
For a nominal fee ($6.95)Renzetti sells a “pit kit” for the Traveler which includes spare O rings, springs, ball bearings, rotary tension screw and jaw set screw. Their part number is X9001 for the non-cam jaws and X9004 for the cam jaws. It’s all the stuff you can loose.
They also sell 10 packs of the O rings for $4.95. $.50 each isn’t a bad price especially when you may have to run around to a couple of hardware store looking for the right size. I would assume any Renzetti dealer would order it for you or you could call them direct.

Just so you’re prepared, you will find your “safe place” as soon as you return from buying new o rings. That is, if Murphy’s Law works at your house the way it does at mine.
Thanks Folks. Got just what I was looking for, as usual.
I thought about getting the repair kit from Renzetti, but with all their legal ploys to block free enterprise after their patent expired (I think they watched one to many “Apprentice” episodes) I am loathe to put any more of my hard earned cash into the corporate coffers.
Flyangler, Yup, the law works the same here. Funny thing is I just saw that o-ring a couple of weeks ago and reminded myself of where it was.

Why Buy a kit? In an emergency situation after my O ring broke, I twisted a numbers of strands of rubber hackle and wrapped it twice and knotted it. Meaning to fix it when I got home. That was 9 years ago. Don’t look pretty but it works.
I went to the local hardware store and picked up half a dozen rubber o-rings that fit just fine and work as well as the Renzetti original. Total cost 90 cents. Steve, the price on those puppies went up a bit.
Just in case, I duct taped the extras to the bottom of the vise pedestal.
Easy fix. Just get a rubber band and attach. If it’s too loose, then double the rubber band up until it works. Cheap and effective, though not as aestically pleasing as the ring.
