Removing Reel Seat and Grip

Can sombody tell me how to remove a reel seat and grip without damaging the blank? Thanks.

Unless it is pinned, a reel seat can normally be removed easily with heat.
Boil some water on the stove, put the butt end of the rod in a freezer bag and dunk it in. Shouldn’t take but a couple of minutes. Then use a rag to pull it off.

As far as I know the grip will need to be cut/chipped off.

That is a great idea, Thank you.

Hello Alan, starting work on that cane you showed me?

hey MontanaMoose…

I still haven’t decided for sure yet on that rod but have another one I want to salvage the guides and reel seat off of. I might use them on the one I showed you.

Oh ok…I thought you were talking about the one you showed me at the cane event. If you haven’t chipped the cork away already on the other one, there is a way but it’s not easy. I’ve heard it’s done though and it involves drilling and reaming. If you try that, let me know if it works !

Cheers,
