Regular nylon or NCP?

What are the pro’s and con’s of using regular nylon thread or NCP thread? Which do you prefer and why?

With NCP thread, your thread doesn’t change color when you apply the finish. With regular wrapping thread, the color goes translucent or “deep”, unless you use color preservative. Depends on the look you want to achieve.

totally agree with Betty. It all depends on the look you are trying to get. With regualr nylon thread you can get that translucent look or you can add color presever and keep the color the way it is.

The thread used on this rod was regular nylon and no color preservative was used. The original color of the thread was close to a Kelly Green. Guedebrod’s Dark Green.

I wanted the wraps to just about dissapear so no color preservative was used.

The wraps on this rod are also regular nylon, but a color preserver was used. The thread is darkened only slightly.

I don’t have an example of the NCP thread as I have only used it on one rod so far and it is on the drying rack now. It gives you the same results as the color preserver without the extra step of actually applying the color preserver.

You can do some neat things by mixing the regular and the NCP in a wrap and letting the regular translusce.

Now that is a great idea - I was wondering about stripes - this might be “the look”.
