Redington Redfly rods

I figured for $49 I couldn’t go wrong, and I was right. I ordered a 8’ 5/6 Redfly from Cabela’s, and it even came with a rod tube.

I fished it this weekend, and worked just fine with some 444 peach 5wt line on board.

Such a deal I ordered another one (9’ 6/7).

Fishcreek,great deal,good luck

make a rod, catch a fish

FishCreek,

How would you rate this rod in terms of the following:

– A rod suited to those just starting out
– A rod that would be suitable for use by any person, ie a ‘workhorse’ or ‘goto’ rod

The reason I ask, is that my 12-year old son has kinda outgrown his LLBEAN First STart rod and I wanted to get him something for his Birthday in June that would be a decent rod, but not something I would cry over if he busted it or lost it.

And while I am aware of the many replacement guarantees offered by many fly rod companies, I’m not prepared to shell out that much for a fly rod on him at this point. I think $50 seems a reasonable price for a workhorse rod (for a 12-year old that is).

Hey Tex,

Just so ya know, the Redington Red Fly
from Cabelas comes with a lifetime guarantee. It appears they are liquidating
last years stock at half price. You can
only purchase through the email they sent
out. If you don’t have it, I can email you
a copy. The sale is through 24 March.

“AA-grade cork grips. Includes rod tube. Lifetime warranty.”
Warm regards, Jim

Gander Mountain had their brand “Fronteer” onsale from $49.99 down to $25 this week.
Got my Dad a 6/7wt and my youngest Son got one.

Looks to be about the same quality as a Redfly.
Might even be made by Redington for Gander?

They also had a Okuma Sierra 5/6 Reel for $25…Son got one of those to match his rod.
At 12yrs old his Winter shoveling $$ was put to good use!

I caught a Fish so big once I couldn’t weigh it.
Took a picture of it and the picture weighed 20LBS! (My Dad)

Well actually you DON’T need the e-mail. I didn’t have it. Just log onto their site and go to the “Bargin Cave” section, and then to the Flyfishing section of the Bargin Cave. It lists the Redfly’s at the discount price.

Tex,
I would by one for your son in a heartbeat. I have another Redington I have fished with for nearly ten years and going strong. They are a comfortable casting rod, not wimpy, but certainly not fast. It seems to be a good moderate stroke. I got them to keep in the truck, and use in the boat. Boats can cause LOTS of bad things to happen to rods, and I figure I will not cry as bad.

Enjoy.

Here is the link to Cabela’s for the Redington’s, you can order from right there.
