Recommended books,dvd's for casting?

Can anyone recommend some good books, dvd’s for flycasting?

I only have one casting dvd. Joan Wulff’s Dynamics of Fly Casting. I’ve seen others, but this is the only one I thought was worth buying.

I found Joan Wullfs and Mel Kreigers vidoes to be quite good.

Got a lot from Jason Borgers book, The Nature of Fly Casting.

I will second Joan Wulff’s Dynamics of fly casting. It covers basics to advanced and is extremely well done by a master

Check out the book/video reviews on this site. The recommendation for video is Joan Wulff’s video (as others have pointed out) and as far as books, I believe it is Mel Kreiger’s (sp?) book the Art of Flycasting that has high marks here (and I own a copy of it and can recommend it) as well as another book whose title I do not know offhand but it is on my list of books to get (could be Jason Borger’s book mentioned earlier). (Note: I will have to look for Mel’s video, too, did not know about it.)

Don’t even think twice. Joan Wulff’s Dynamics of Flycasting. Very well explained, excellent filming, very sharp detail. Goes from basic to advanced very easily.

And you can actually see the flyline!

And you can build from there, watching other videos to compliment your technique. Mel Kreiger, Lefty Kreh all receive good marks but start out with Joan Wulff.

I see Mel Kreiger has a new one out.

I like Joan Wulff and Mel Krieger but the best I’ve seen are two lesser known videos: Bill Gammel’s “Teaching Yourself to Fly Cast” and George Roberts “Saltwater Fly Casting: 10 Steps to Distance and Power”.

You can purchase Gammel’s video directly from him (email me for contact info), and you can get Roberts’ at Cabelas’s or here:

Save up the $$$ you’d spend on several books and DVDs and just get one good casting lesson from a qualified instructor.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I second the recommendation for Swisher’s videos. I like them better then Mel’s, although I know that a lot of people will probably feel otherwise.

I feel Swisher illustrates how to cast better, and explains the details of casting really well.

I don’t have Jason Borgers book, but I have been very impressed by his writing, however. He is very good at explaining things.

cheers,
