I fish a lot of foam hopper patterns, Charlie boy hopper is one of them. Sometimes I feel like the foam fills up too much of that hook gap and I miss/lose fish because of it.
Any suggestions on good dry fly hooks with a wider hook gap that would be ideal of these patterns?
I tie a lot of my hoppers on Dai Riki 280’s; don’t have much problem with the gap being too shallow with them. On real small hoppers, I’ll often use a scud hook like a Dai Riki 135.
Well, I guess if you really wanted to go to town, you could try something like a Tiemco TMC8089 which is made as small as #12. As Marco pointed out, it is a perennial problem with foam patterns.
