Reading's Fly Shop near Bennett Spring, Mo

Traveled to fish Bennett Spring near my hometown of Lebanon, Mo.
Charlie Reading has one of the finest fly shops I’ve seen. Complete with a casting pool. His shop is cramed full of quality products. He has the largest book collection anywhere.

He also has a number of mounted Whiting birds and other exotic bird mounts all over his shop. If you get a chance, stop and see his place!

The spring head at Bennett Spring. This spring produces 100 million gallons of gin clear water daily. The stream empties into the Niangua river about 3 miles downstream.

Always enjoy seeing pix of other fishing venues. Thanks for a glimpse into a world very different than the one I wander around here in the Northern Rockies.

P.S. How was the fishing ??

Hey Byron,

Have you ever fished the Mammoth River in Arkansas? It’s fed by Mammoth Spring (duh) at, you guessed it, Mammoth Spring, Ark. Just across the border from Thayer, Mo on US 63. I used to live near there a generation and a half ago and remember that gin clear water and seeing the guys fishing just below the dam.

Also check out Greer Springs and the Eleven Point River in Oregon County if you are ever down that way. It pumps out 3.9 million gallon per minute and make the Eleven Point perfect for trout for about 10 miles. We had a family reunion down there about 10 years ago and floated the Eleven Point from Greer to a take out about 5 miles down stream. Caught several nice rainbows, though with a spinning outfit and no a fly.

If you ever get the the southern part of the state, and northern Arkansas, give those two rivers a try.
