Rants !!

LF and JC run a tight ship here (imho). …

Hey folks, we’re all GUESTS here. I realise there are some big “issues” in the world today. I suppose that’s one of the reasons we “escape” to the river

The river bank community we meet is very similar to the “community” that meets here. We all have opinions, … many different ones. It’s just that,. … well, if it’s not dealing with ff’ing, conservation, weather, family news, … etc. … it just isn’t the place to discuss it.

This is not ducking my head in the sand vs REAL problems, … There’s just a time and a place for discussion.

If you read a non-flyfishing post that doesn’t “appeal” to you, I would invite y’all to check out: [url=http://www.rantforum.com/:44a7c]http://www.rantforum.com/[/url:44a7c]
for a place dedicated to that.

BTW, … this forum, Sound off, … says clearly:

… All opinions are just that, take them or leave them. NO WAR, POLITICS, RELIGION, OR FLAMING!

and

the general forum is for:

General Discussion of Fly Angling topics.

Wow … had to look … some pretty messed up people out there …

NY,

Scary eh? :open_mouth:

Ya’ also have to know your foe, so to speak. If you have the tools, it’s interesting to see who some of the posters REALLY are.

Like the time, I was working for a large forest products company in BC, … we got a fax from BIG “conservationist” group. … The fax number came from the same PBX as another forest products company!

Yikes!!! Scary place!

I agree in principle to your post about this being a flyfishing site, but sometimes the non-flyfishing topics are very interesting and you get to see alot of differing viewpoints, mostly expressed in very educated responses. We had a couple of very tense topics a few weeks ago, and I joined in on them and for the most point had a very good time. But I think this site is great at “nipping it in the bud” before it gets out of hand.
As a side note I have really enjoyed your articles fcch, they are almost relaxing the way you talk about fishing. If the wife is good to me I would love to make both the Michigan and your fish in next year. It would be nice to get a line wet with you.
Drew

A bum-legged old man and a drunk. That’s all you got?
That’s WHAT I got.

Drew,

I realize the line between a “strickly” ff board and discussions and other (important) topics is a tough one to scribe.

My original post only tried to show, (if you look at the RantForum), what one could look like.

Fireside chats will always stray into various topics, … but, imho, … I*net boards, 'cause they are a bit “anonamous” tend to degenerate fast in their “tone”.

I’ve read your posts … I can see one of the underlining themes of all your comments is … respect.

Hope you can make it ti a FishIn or 2 (or 3 or 4 ).

Tight lines …

Chris

I am confused. Regardless of what the rules of Sound Off may say, those topics do get discussed here. At least until it is something that JC and LF are too crazy about and then they pull it. But as long as you are halfway civil about it. What I don’t understand is why the thread on the big bang in London was allowed to stay on the main bb. While it is a terrible event, as far as I can tell it has absolutely nothing to do with fly fishing. But then again this isn’t my site and I’m not a moderator.

Davd

Dave,

I guess, … we can actually post “almost” any subject on the Sound Off forum. The admin let’s it go, … which is fine by me, … it IS their place.

… The description I copied to the lead post in this thread is from the Forums page.

I’m with you on the “Big Bang thread”. … While it merits discussion, … it “could” have been moved.

Note:
To LF, Jim and JC, … PLEASE don’t think I’m trying to tell you how to run your place.

Christopher Chin, Jonquiere Quebec

Chris

Don’t worry about leaving an impression of trying to tell them how to run their place. You aren’t the first and won’t be the last.

Why I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if they haven’t thought that of me a time or two.

Jim

Well as one of your more observant arm chair moderators, I did notice who started the thread.

Wish I could go out and play. Maybe tonight after work.

Oh and please don’t smack poor Chris on the back of the hand just because he got mixed up in a thread with me. Now if it was Micus, well then…

JC,
Did you mean…“Go outside and play in the street.”?

Whew! JC I’m glad you clarified that. For minute there I thought you were hoping I’d get run over.

ducksterman

The last time I was playing in the street I caught and (was forced to ) release a beautiful pickup truck complete with a truck load of expertly tied flies and a number of complete fly rods and reels.
I have always and will always regret that I practice catch and release. But the owner did become a friend.

And he brought some great hot sauce to the fish-in.

Harold

My apologies to Chris. It seems my reply has taken this thread in a direction that was not intended. And now some folks are getting their dander up.

AnglerDave,

Nope, … not taken badly, … From the (quality) posts I’ve seen from you, … I believe I know what you were expressing.

Before I reply to 99% of the posts here, … I’ll usually do a search on the user, check out the profil, … often a bit of Sherlock work on Google and a few “private” search engines etc. Just to get a feel for the person and try to know “where they’re coming from”.

Tight Lines …

JC, … Oooops, … I wasn’t talking about the First thread, … but the second one (saturday AM).

Christopher Chin, Jonquiere Quebec

“Before I reply to 99% of the posts here, … I’ll usually do a search on the user”…

Jeez Chris, when do you find time to fish??? [G]

Respect Your Elders!

Duck,

Searching is a whole lot faster than most of you would like to know

Unfortunately, … fishing has not been a big activity this year.

FIRES, … had some in June, … more springing up this week
