Question About LL Bean Fly Reel

Hi All,

I recently bought a used fly rod, and it came with an LL Bean Streamlight #2 fly reel. It is not very old, and is in good shape. It is a standard size reel, not the new Large Arbor version.

Question is, do any of you know much about this reel. I am assuming that it is a relatively inexpensive reel, but don’t know, is this correct? Have any of you an experience with this reel.

Anything you can advise me will be appreciated.

Thanks and regards,

Gandolf

If you will PM Heritage Angler (Ed Maurer) I think he would be able to answer your questions on this reel. He is a very helpful gentleman and he knows his LL Bean products. Hope this helps…

Hi Gandolf - FWIW, we used that exact model of Streamlight reel the first year I worked for LL Bean’s Outdoor Discovery School here in PA. We used and abused them pretty hard, and didn’t have a single problem with them. We performed zero maintenance on them:oops: , dropped them on rocks, dunked them in mud, and otherwise tortured them. No reel deserved what they got, but they never failed.

If you keep it lubed (keep the lube off the drag washers), I suspect you’ll have a good reel for many years to come.

Hi Heritage Angler,

Are spare spools still available?

Thank you for the good report.

Thanks and regards,

Gandolf

Hi Gandolf - It’s been a while since I saw a spare spool for one of those reels. You could give customer service a call @ 800-441-5713. They can check the inventory of all the stores for you. I’ll call tomorrow as well, and if I find one, I’ll PM you.
