Quarrow Fly Rods

Any of you out there know anything about Quarrow fly rods??? There were a bunch of them on EBay. A few are still there right now with some pretty major claims for the price. How much is one really worth??? I’d like to know since I just bought one!!!

THANKS!

acorbin01,

Really have no idea but at this point, it’s kinda late to ask isn’t it?
Oh, I just looked it up on abay. How can it be a “100th Anniversary” edition? They had graphite in 1905?

This is a new rod, and I think I have a good deal for $66 + shipping regardless. If not, at least I did not break the bank. I just never heard of them. Here are the specs:

FLY ROD INFORMATION:

*50 Million Modulus TSX Graphite Epoxy coated
w/Flex Coat
*Model # DG-4/8.5-2 (medium fast action)
*Handle = Premium Natural Cork - AAA Grade
*Up-locking Rose wood reel seat w/Pac-Bay aluminum hood
*7 Pac-Bay Titanium snake guides w/Tip & Fly keeper
*2 Fuji SIC W/Titanium Stripper Guides w/U.V. coating
*Cordura covered hard case with rod sock

Any information you have would be appreciated.

they claim to have supplied blanks for many major rod manufacturers over the years, though which manufacturers I have no idea. still $66 seems like a reasonable price to pay.

This should scare the hell out of you; especially, if you click on Customer Service and then click Warranty Information.

jsentell,

I guess you’d like an unconditional ‘lifetime’ warranty, no shipping fees and local replacement or loaner while a rod you broke in the car door is handled? For $84 I’d be satisfied with a rod I liked, period.

Gosh, Quarrow was part of another company and I believe they are out of business. I do know Al Campbell ordered OEM (made for other companies) rods for Sheel’s AllSport and they never delivered them.

tyeflies…that’s included in my HMO…

The consensus seems to be that I have been hoodwinked, bamboozled, or even horns waggled, excluding the wise and astute J. Castwell!!

However, I’ll have you all know that according to the research I’ve JUST completed, this rod apparently retailed for $300 during its hay day. So I figure that in getting it for a grand total of $78.50 I should have worn a mask!!!

Are you sure I am not detecting just a hint of jealousy?!?!!??

Allan

ac,

I don’t know how you define ‘consensus’ or how you read that you’ve been “hoodwinked, etc”. The only post that reads somewhat questionable is the one about the lack of warranty and where I questioned about 100 year anniversary. All other posts were neutral or positive.

I purchased a Quarrow ML2 fly rod several years ago, a 9’ 4 wt. At that time, the ML2 sold at retail for $210.00, which is what I paid for it. It appears to be a very well built rod. This rod has a fairly fast action, but casts pretty well close in as well as far out. I’ve used it for both smallmouth bass and trout without any problems, and was able to land my largest trout to date, a 24 inch rainbow, without any difficulty. Being a native of Oklahoma, I was proud that a nice rod was being built here. I have never heard of any problems with the rods, but apparently the company has had some problems, and there are apparently no longer any dealers for Quarrow in Oklahoma. I was also quite pleased by the unconditional lifetime warranty until I read it more carefully and discovered it was really only a warranty against manufacturing defects. Oh well, it’s still a nice rod, and I wish I could have bought mine at the price you mentioned.

FlyTier, I apologize if my sensitivity is so apparent, but I was a panicky for the kind of comment I just got from Canoeman!!!

Canoeman, believe it or not, the rod I just purchased was the ML3, not the ML2. If I can figure away around my lovely wife of twenty years this August, I am going to buy an 8wt Salty as well!!

Alan If you woould like the inside story on your new rod and the company in question, call Dan Bailys in Livingston and ask for Johnny Boyd. He was one of there first reps. and helped develope the flyrods. Johnny is a great guy and will answer any questions you have about the rod or company.

Rich

Thansk Rich!!

I will give him a call. I know the company is dead, but I think this is a pretty good rod for less that $80 shipped!!
