Here is a pattern that is quite like the Preska that I tied several years ago. While I have caught fish with it I must say that most of the places I fished the fly are so loaded with hungry trout that presentation is more important than pattern.
Hook is a 10 or 12, Tail & body from one feather of a pheasant and the wing from another. Hackle is brown. Pictures show pheasant feathers that were dyed.
Panman,
Are you familiar with a vintage Denver tie: “The Old Faithfull”. You definitely have a clone for that one. “The Old Faithfull” was a popular high mountain lake pattern in the '70’s.
About the only place to find one nowadays is down at AnglersAll. I’m afraid it’s a dieing breed (along with us). I’ll tie one and post it one of these days for comparison as soon as my new stock of rump feathers gets delivered.
The thing that separates the Preska from the Old faithfull is the wing. The Preska has a two feathered tent wing and The Old Faithfull has a flat wing.
Some say The Old Faithfull is a good imo for callibaetis, which should be a good one to use in your neck of the woods too.
Hairwing. When I looked at the Preska I got the impression that the wing was one feather. A closer look shows the 2d feather. I look forward to seeing your new picture. Thanks for the clarification.
