This is a repeat of an earlier post BUT still should be considered.
Posting a birthdate ( at least the year) is all too important in a BB such as this. A comment on ANY topic without an age perspective is MEANINGLESS to all. That’s my not so humble opinion , but, I could be wrong.
If you agree, place it in the ICQ space in your profile.
Mark
What does one’s birthdate and ‘age’ have to do with something. You write,
“A comment on ANY topic without an age perspective is MEANINGLESS to all.”
That is pure bs. Chronological age means little if anything. Guy ‘A’ is 65, recently retired and been fly fishing 5 years, roughly 10 days a year; Guy ‘B’ is 55, works, been fly fishing 10 years at about 15 days a year; Guy ‘C’ is 45, works, been fly fishing 15 years at about 15 days a year; Youngster ‘D’ is 35, works, been fly fishing 20 years, at least 50 days per year. Another younster ‘E’ is also 35 and has been fortunate enough to have fished all over the US at about 200 days a year for the past 20 years.
The point is: Experience, Variable experiences, Mentoring or tutalege gotten; Knowledge learned through all phases and information associated with a sport; etc. certainly mean more than chronological age.
logic, I do enjoy knowing more about the
folks I’m relating with here. Not what I
would consider personal things but certainly
I’d like to know a persons gender and
general age group rather than grouping
everyone into a generic hodgepodge.G
It is of course everyones option. Actually
I’d be pleased if we had photo ID’s on our
postings so I could look at you when I’m
speaking to you.G Warm regards, Jim
If Marco had said something like, ‘It might be easier to relate to someone based on age’, I’d have no disagreement. However, he said, “A comment on ANY topic without an age perspective is MEANINGLESS to all.” That’s where I disagreed.
By the way, there’s enough information already here with more to be gained reading what people write, and what we say in the chat room, from which we can relate.
And that’s, to use Marco’s phrase, “my not so humble opinion”.
BS This tain’t no damn union where age counts! This is pretty close to someone asking for my SS# when it is not needed to which I write NYFB (none of your F… business) Allyn
I’m with Allan, and strongly leaning towards Allyn. There’s old farts on this board who are full of BS, and young kids who know far more about flyfishing than I did at their age, and everything in between. You can generally sort it out by reading what they write. My personal information, of whatever sort, is really nobody’s business. If you ask me nicely in chat, I might let you know, but other than that, mind yer own business.
Marco, if you cannot gain any value from a posting of mine without knowing how old I am, then I recommend you disregard anything I say.
I strongly resent people who do not know me (and even those I do) telling me what I should or should not do. The more “should” and “proper” and “right” and “wrong” I read on here (and the fewer “what I observe” and “what I think” and “in my opinion”), the less likely it is I will post, or even read, this board. I’ve met JC and LF, along with a bunch of other regulars here, and they know (at least roughly) how old I am and how reasonable my opinions are, but if it ever becomes a requirement on this site to post that sort of personal information for all to see, I am gone.
