I am very curious as to the tying kits that the great minds on this bbs use. I’ve looked over the pictures of the various Fish-In’s and see numerous photos. Since the most recent event just completed, maybe someone can post:
Pictures of tying kits / boxes / ideas from this fish-in
Hi SOM,
I don’t have any pics to share but I can tell you what I have in my travel kit:
all items below are carried in a zippered Griffith tool pouch (from cabelas)
12 sewing machine bobbins with thread (6 plastic & 6 steel all store in two 35mm film cans) threads…black white grey olive red yellow chartreuse brown tan
3 midge flytying bobbins
Two hackle pliers
1 scissor fine tip
1 scissor coarse materials
mattarelli whip finisher
dyna king dubbing loop spinner (fits in 35mm film container)
small hair stacker
1 bodkin
1 35mm can with steel wool (clean bodkin)
3 or 4 dental floss threaders
small fly tying hair comb
Altoid box with strips of craft foam diff colors-black brown yellow green the rest of the bobbins are spare for tinsel, wire and floss…amounts depens on where I am going, how long I am gone and what I expect to be fishing/tying
these items are then packed in an old hard side brief case with my Renzetti Traveler both pedestal and C-clamp go just in case and one set midge jaws.
One table top fold up ott lite
one 8 ft surge protector extension cord
grizzley hackle 100’s
furnace hackle 100s
dark dun hackle 100s
hooks in sz 10 thru 24 dry & nymph depending on what I am fishing for and for how long
misc deer hair pieces
travel box with dubbing (although some tyers use sections of drinking straw to pack dubbing in…cut straws size to fit 35mm can…an entire package of dubbing will fit into one straw)
1 bottle SH nail polish packed in double plastic sandwich bags
I think that covers everything in that case.
Hope it helps.
My friends and clients get a replica brooch pin if the fish they catch is their first (salmon or sea run trout).
95% of my materials ar ein this one “Plano” tackle box, as I only have simle materials and tie very SIMPLE flies.
